Ending Predatory Listing Practices

It’s time to stop long-term right-to-list agreements aimed at vulnerable consumers.

Zillow helped champion additional consumer protections against predatory practices and right-to-list schemes. Predatory listing services offer homeowners cash upfront for the right to list their property later – in most cases, for up to 40 years.  This can lead to harsh liens and legal headaches down the line.

Companies target cash-strapped homeowners by offering cash up front — usually just a few hundred dollars — in exchange for the right to exclusively list the property when the homeowner decides to sell. These services use high-pressure sales tactics, deceptive marketing, and false claims to lure unsuspecting homeowners.

We believe there is no place in the industry for misleading and deceptive practices. Zillow is determined to put an end to these schemes. We have worked with more than a dozen state legislatures — and counting — to enact consumer protections.
